We love leaving our brisk weather in Santa Barbara to go see all our friends and sell orchids in Florida in January! This show has long and rich history, and is one of the best national shows for those who enjoy fantastic floor exhibits. Sales booths ring the entire building and we ship in an extremely diverse group of plants to satisfy the needs of serious collectors as well as the 'ground orchid' (epis) lovers as well! This is your chance to buy from CAL without paying shipping! The preview party on Friday night is an event in itself with great food, drink, and music. If you miss us here, we won't be back in Florida again until Redlands in May, so kick off the 2017 season in Ft. Lauderdale with us! Note: yes, we are scheduled for two shows this weekend. Lauris goes to Florida and James does the Penninsula Show in California.
This show is one of Californias smaller shows. Don't let the size fool you. There is a wealth of beautiful displays and many fine nurseries as vendors. We think it is so special as it is one of the friendliest shows that we attend. It is a perfect way to kick off the new year.

South Coast Plaza is the hotspot for orchid shows these days, and September 24th & 25th is the date for the famous Fascination of Orchids, held outdoors at their 'Village' sales area. This is diagonally across from where the Spring Garden Sale is held in April. There is a showroom for displays, and all the sales booths are set up under the shade of trees, on the grass. We love it. This is a traditionally big weekend for Laelia anceps and its hybrids for outdoor growing. Come enjoy the day shopping. The Corner Bakery is right there for you to enjoy breakfast or lunch!
For thousands of years, the Japanese culture has held its native orchid species, Neofinetia falcata in highest regard.
3 years ago, we decided to spotlight the Japanese style of evaluating this species when judging in Japan. It is decidedly different from the criteria used by the American Orchid Society, and we think, quite interesting. So, Saturday afternoon there will be an informal (by Japanese standards) judging of Neofinetias for everyone to observe.
Watch the website when we get closer to the date for more specifics, but this is a popular aspect to our Summer Hummer and we are enjoying watching it grow!
Informal lectures will take place before judging.
Official judging will start at 2:00 PM. A discussion of the results will follow the judging.
Event is sponsored by the Fukiran Society of America
Formerly the weekend of the International Orchid Fair event at Earl Warren Showgrounds, this weekend is now a Santa Barbara Orchid Open House sale weekend at area orchid nurseries.
