Long considered the national treasure of Peru, Masdevallia Veitchiana is certainly one of the world's most beautiful orchids. It is rumored to have been cultivated by the Incas centuries ago. This species has unbelievable sizzling orange flowers covered in a pattern of small purple hairs that createt a kind of iridescence as the flower moves in the breezes. The blooms are very large, approximately 5 cm. X 15 cm. Coming from high in the Andes, they definitely prefer cooler and moist conditions. We grow it out-of-doors easily along the coast in Southern California. These are nice flowering-size multiple lead plants. The varioius cultivars are listed to help the collector round out his or her collection more comprehensively. THESE HAVE ALL BEEN RECENTLY REPOTTED AND WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL JANUARY '09 |
