Africa and Madagascar offer some of the most unique and beautiful of all orchids. 

Though most growers are familiar with the genera Aerangis and Angraecum, there is much more to the orchids of this continent.  Discover some of what Africa has to offer! The plants offered below possess some wonderful attributes: attractive foliage, night fragrance and uncommon beauty.  Many are tropical, but none are difficult to cultivate and offer really distincitve rewards to the grower.

 

 

Aerangis articulata

Nice plants of the best known of the genus bred from our awarded cultivar. Incredibly long pendulous spikes of white 'birds in flight'. Attractive foliage looks similar to (and grows along with) small phalaenopsis.

Aerangis biloba

One of the easiest of all Aerangis to cultivate.  Deep green tessalated leaves with a notch on the tip.  Many spikes with 6-8 sparkling white flowers with some fragrance at night.  Can be grown on mounts.

Fall-blooming robust 12-14" plants with long, arching spikes of large bird-like white blooms with long spurs.  Attractive heavy light green leaves. Easy to grow with phals or catts. Nice seedlings.

Aerangis fastuosa

Absolutely one of our favorites. A true miniature orchid with a leaf span of only 3".  Unique round gray-green leaves that make you think more of a succulent.  Pristine hit flowers with a wonderful fragrance.  Strong night fragrance.

Very nice mounted plants. This South African species is always popular with nicely tessellated foliage and short spikes of 6-7 white flowers.

Angraecum didieri

A truly great miniature orchid from Madagascar.  Very stiff stout leaves on monopodial plants.  Watch for a flower almost as big as the plant itself.  The flower is sparkling white with a gardenia like fragrance at night.  A super windowsill orchid.

Angraecum florulentum

Very compact and freely branching plants quickly reach specimen size. Expect a profusion of long-nectaried, fairly full shaped white blooms. Always popular and hard to keep in stock.  Blooms on small plants in 2" pots!

Ansellia africana

Beautiful seedlings of this majestic tropical African species.  Plants mature to elegant large attractive 3-foot canes, reminiscent of bamboo to produce very large branching sprays of yellow flowers heavily marked with dark brown.  NFS $20.00

Beautiful mini fans of succulent green foliage bearing explosions of glistening white flowers that resemble lilies of the valley. Rarely seen in collections, we produce them from seed. Summer bloomer.
